Use ICT Fully To Expedite Work, Civil Servants Told
Date : 22 July 2011
SIBU: Civil servants are advised to change their mindset to make full use of the information and communication technologies (ICT) for their own benefit, and for the benefit of their organisations and country.
Deputy director general of Public Service Datuk Dr Ismail Alias said that ICT should be used to expedite work and work efficiency.
Dr Ismail said this at the launch of Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) here yesterday.
He commended Sibu Municipal Council, Sibu Rural District Council and Sibu Water Board which had already been using HRMIS extensively.
Dr Ismail said the six main objectives of HRMIS were to provide efficient manpower planning to optimise the size of the public service; development of an integrated and up-to-date information system; automation of the human resource; facilitate communication and integration through ‘single window’ concept; promote a paperless environment; and provide information in compliance with the needs of various management levels.
He disclosed that presently there were 41 state agencies, 24 local authorities and 20 statutory bodies in the state which were using the HRMIS.
He hoped the usage of the system would be expanded to include many more government departments and agencies.
Dr Ismail also advised civil servants to be flexible and to be global-minded.
Deputy State Secretary Datuk Abdul Ghafur Shariff who also spoke at the function reminded civil servants to make full use of the HRMIS application.
Ghafur said due to the size of the state, it was divided into eight zones for the implementation of the HRMIS. These zones are Kuching, Samarahan, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri/Limbang and Sri Aman/Betong.
