The Batu Kawah New Township was officially launched by YAB Chief
Minister of Sarawak on 28 January 1997. It is a new self-contained
th
satellite Township, planned and designed to decentralise traffic
congestion from the Kuching City Centre.
This new township will cover an area of 529 acres, with 2812
units of 4 storey shop-apartments, 92 units of semi detached houses,
condominiums, a market and bungalows, villas, a school, a medical
centre and other amenities to guarantee the comfort of its dwellers.
When fully completed, the Batu Kawah New Township will have a
population of 60,000, made up of the local population, the professionals
and business communities.
