The Boards has two (2) water treatment plants, namely Salim & Bukit Lima Water Treatment Plants
with a design capacity of 150 MLD and 45 MLD respectively.
The Board produced a total of 56,891 ML fully treated water in year 2017. Out of this number,
55,938 ML or an average of 153.253 ML per day of treated water was put into supply, an increase
of 5.38% over that of 2016. During the year, the Board recorded maximum daily water into supply
of 165.295 ML and minimum daily water into supply of 143.357 ML.
QuaLiTY ConTroL
Treated water quality control has always been the core business of Sibu Water Board (SWB).
During the year, 23,266 samples were taken from Raw Water Intakes, Treatment Plants, High
Level Tanks & Reservoirs and Distribution System for water examination. Out of this number,
21,018 samples were analyzed for Physico-chemical Test while the remaining 2,248 samples were
examined for Bacteriological Test, as shown in the table below:
Board’s Laboratory
Parameter / Location
Physico-chemical Test Bacteriological Test
Raw Water Intakes 4,900 -
Water Treatment processes 10,010 520
Treatment Plant Outlets 4,900 520
High Level Tanks & Reservoirs 520 520
Distribution System 688 688
TOTAL: 21,018 2,248
Number of water samples tested from various sources for year 2017
From the water samples sent to Chemistry Department Sibu by Health Department Sibu, 44.0%
of the raw water samples were found to contain Total Coliform exceeding 5000 MPN/100 ml
(maximum acceptable level for conventional water treatment). This is not unusual as raw water
often contains the presence of bacteria. However, with the effective water treatment process
control and close quality monitoring, none of the treated water samples were contaminated with
Total Coliform and E. Coli bacteria. There was also no violation for Residual Chlorine.
SWB continued to strive in providing quality potable water according to the recommendations
stated in National Drinking Water Quality Standards (NDWQS).
