Date : 18 October 2011
KUCHING: Malaysian and Taiwanese drivers will soon enjoy greater convenience by being able to drive in each other’s territory.
Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha
Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha yesterday announced that Taiwan and Malaysia have reached a consensus on mutually converting their driving licences so that the people of both regions can enjoy the convenience of automatic conversion of their driving licences soon.
“Taiwanese driving licence holders can apply to convert their licences into Malaysian ones at the nearest Road Transport Department (JPJ) offices after their licences have been authenticated at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia,” said Kong in a press release issued yesterday.
“Likewise, Malaysian driving licence holders can apply to convert their licences into Taiwanese ones at any Department of Motor Vehicle in Taiwan after having their driving licences authenticated at the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei,” he added.
Based on the principle of reciprocity, both parties will implement the automatic conversion measure from Nov 1.
Kong believes this reciprocal arrangement will mutually benefit both parties and bring about greater convenience to Malaysians and Taiwanese visiting each other.
