Visiting Sarawak

Sarawak is known for its Culture, Adventure and Nature, which draws visitors from around the globe.

In terms of culture, visitors may find it difficult to experience and see for themselves all the unique customs and heritage of the 27 ethnic groups that call Sarawak home. This is because these groups of people are spread far and wide and visiting them all would involve a lot of travelling time.

The Sarawak Cultural Village, located near the city of Kuching, allows visitors to catch a glimpse of the culture and lifestyle of some of the major ethnic groups, within just a few hours. Not surprisingly, the Sarawak Cultural Village is one of the most famous attractions in the State.

Those who prefer a more authentic experience could just hop on a plane to visit the Orang Ulu community in the highlands or take the next van or express boat to a nearby longhouse to experience the hospitality of the Iban community or Bidayuh community.

Those who crave adventure could try out rock climbing on the limestone mountain cliffs in the southern parts of Sarawak or scuba-diving at magnificent coral reefs off the northern coast. In the central region of Sarawak, the adventure lies in the journey on the longest river in the country, the mighty Rajang, and its tributaries.

For those who long for the lush green forests will be pleased to find that some of the national parks in the State are located fairly close to major urban areas, such as Bako National Park in Kuching.
