KUCHING: Projects under Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) development plan will be able to generate job opportunities for graduates of institutions of higher learning (IPT) and colleges providing technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing said the projects are expected to attract about RM334 billion in investment and when fully realised by 2030, they are expected to create 1.6 million new job opportunities for the people of Sarawak.
Speaking during the ‘Malam Randau Bersama Pelajar Dayak IPT Sarawak’ at the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS ) East Campus, Jalan Stampin Timur here on Sunday, he said this should be good news for IPT and TVET students.
“To support the continuing efforts of the Sarawak government to transform the state’s economy into Digital Economy, there is an urgent need to prepare our workforce with relevant skills and knowledge in line with the current and future needs of the various industrial sectors,” he added.
Apart from that, the rapid development of technology including Industry 4.0 and the Digital Economy had increased the demand for skilled workforce, he pointed out.
The ‘Malam Randau Bersama Pelajar Dayak IPT Sarawak’ was hosted by i-CATS Students Representative Committee, which involved all Dayak students in various public and private institutions of higher learning.
It also aimed at strengthening the relationship between Dayak students and exchanging knowledge in various fields of study.
Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan, political secretary to the chief minister Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie and Konsortium Bumi Consultants and Services Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Ir Janang Bungsu were members of the panel for the question and answer session with students.
Also present were Industries and Investment Assistant Minister Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong, i-CATS executive director-general Mohd Isham Fauzi, Masing’s close aide Datuk Wilfred Nissom and event organising chairman Martin Jon Madden.
