KUCHING: Members of the public are advised to always consult the Land and Survey Department (JTS) regarding the status of land ownership prior to any land purchase.
According to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, the Sarawak Government is now facing a problem when there are people who have been deceived by irresponsible people regarding the purchase of land that is government owned.
“There are people who deceive the buyer that the land is their land so they (irresponsible) sell the land lot to the buyer.
“Buyers also mostly do not know the background of the land, so they will buy the land at a cheap price without knowing that the land is the property of the government,” he said.
He explained this in a press conference after visiting the Sungai Bedaun Housing Scheme on Saturday.
He added that the government had to evict them from the land due to illegal land ownership due to the actions of irresponsible individuals.
Therefore, he emphasised that the people should not be deceived by the purchase of land at a cheap price and always refer to JTS.
“I want to emphasise not to be deceived by this irresponsible person.
“We also want to tell the people to be careful if they want to buy land and to always refer to the Land and Survey Department.
“I advise the people to be careful because we feel sorry to see people affected by fraud due to spending a lot of funds such as payment for land and house construction in addition to having to pay the cost of moving out of the land,” he explained.
In addition, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari also called on Penghulu and Community Heads to see for themselves the land ownership claims that occur in their areas and always cooperate with JTS.
This came after cases of some individuals who made land claims especially on new road project land carried out by the state government.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications and Pantai Damai State Assembly Member Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Director of North Kuching City Hall (DBKU) Mohamed Khaidir Abang, Sarawak JTS Director Datu Abdullah Julaihi and other dignitaries. – UKASnews
