KAPIT: Dr Hii King Ching has been hailed as being instrumental in improving the quality and delivery of healthcare services provided by Kapit Hospital throughout her tenure as its director over the past five years.

Her ongoing emphasis on teamwork and commitment towards working culture excellence bore fruit when the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), in October last year, awarded Kapit Hospital with a four-year quality accreditation.

The MSQH is a non-governmental non-profit organisation that was established in 1997, as a result of a partnership between the Ministry of Health (MoH), Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) and Malaysian Medical Association (MMA). The MSQH accreditation for Kapit Hospital is valid until Dec 10, 2022.

Based on the criteria listed on MSQH website, Kapit Hospital has complied with the requirements necessary for the eligibility of the accreditation including governance and administration, leadership and direction, management and safety of facilities and biomedical equipment, nursing services, prevention and control of infection, the rights of patients and their families, health information management system, emergency services, services covering medical areas, psychiatry and mental health, obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, critical care, chronic dialysis, radiology/diagnostic imaging as well as blood transfusion, allied health professional services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, diabetic services and social medical services), pharmacy service, housekeeping, food-service, and mortuary services.

The MSQH accreditation was presented to Dr Hii by Kapit Hospital’s new director Dr Ivan Vun during the hospital’s fundraising event, ‘Kapit Got Talent 2019’ at the civic centre here recently.

Dr Hii would remain with Kapit Hospital and continue her service there as a child specialist.

It is learnt that Kapit Hospital was built by members of the Methodist Mission in 1952, and its management was taken over by the MoH in the early 1970s.

At present, it has 134 beds.

Kapit Hospital is also the referral hospital for Song, Bukit Mabong and Belaga districts which have a combined total population of more than 112,000.
