CM: Sarawak Government To Build 2,500 Affordable Houses

SIBU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak government will build 2,500 affordable houses comprising bungalow single/double storey, semi-detached single/double and single and double-storey terrace in the next two years throughout the state.
“Out of this, 813 lots have been alloted for development in Kemuyang,” he said when visiting Rumah Spektra Permata development project in Kemuyang here yesterday afternoon.
The others are at Darul Hana, Kuching (560 units), Bunga Rampa, Kuching (122), Lundu (26), Sematan (25), Igan, Mukah (22), Tian, Matu (20) and Rangau, Limbang (128).
In addition to this development, the areas that are under planning include Selipar Putus, Tabuan Melayu (200 units apartment), Permjaya, Miri (278), Lundu (240), Kanowit, Phase II (98), Sibuluh, Bau (164), Spaoh, Betong (162), Kampong Salak, Kuching (224), Sambir, Samarahan (50), Sebuyau (50) and Betong (50). The built-up areas for the houses are from 700 sq ft to 820 sq ft with the selling prices ranging from RM90,000 to RM120,000 per unit.
Abang Johari said the type of houses varies from single-storey terrace to single-storey detached built on stilt.
“The units will be sold to eligible buyers with household income not more than RM3,000 while Mutiara Mortgage & Credit will provide end financing facility to buyers,” he said.
On the Rumah Spektra Permata project in Kemuyang, he said 110 units will be constructed first with the remaining 703 lots to be built at a later stage.
He said the drainage, road access, earth filling and electricity work for the Kemuyang Rumah Spektra Permata are all ready.
“Barring unforseen circumstances, the project for the first 110 units is expected to be completed within 12 months or by June 2020,” he added.
Abang Johari said the houses will be available to the extended family members from Kampong Datu, Kampong Hilir, Kampung Nyabor and Kampong Bandong.
He said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has always have the people at heart and that is why it is coming up with this affordable housing project.
“The people’s welfare are of utmost importance and through such housing projects, we aim to alleviate their plight and provide them with affordable houses to stay.”
Abang Johari also said that a new access road linking Kemuyang to Sibu Hospital will be built.
“Once completed, it will bring greater conveniences and access to residents staying at Kemuyang areas,” he said.
Accompanying him were Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and Assistant Minister of Housing and Health Dr Annuar Rapaee.
