KUCHING: Sarawakians in Kuala Lumpur who may be facing difficulties during the Movement Control Order (MCO) are told to get in touch with Rumah Sarawak there for assistance.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said he had received up to three cases involving Sarawakians who were facing difficulties in Kuala Lumpur, and referred them to Rumah Sarawak.

“We have two or three cases related to me, I sent them over to Rumah Sarawak, and the cases were immediately resolved,” he told a press conference after chairing the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today.

Uggah said these Sarawakians in Kuala Lumpur, especially those who are daily paid, were having difficulties such as not having income due to the MCO but they were still required to pay for rent, food and other essential items.

He said that he had also received some pleas for help recently from some Sarawakian polytechnic students in Kuala Lumpur having difficulties due to the MCO.

He said he had referred them to Senior Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as well as Rumah Sarawak for assistance.

He also urged those who know any Sarawakians there to spread the word to those in need to get in touch with Rumah Sarawak (03-2692 7595) located at Jalan Tun Ismail in Kuala Lumpur or contact Rumah Sarawak volunteers at 013-895 0345 (Khairul), 012-462 9293 (Sakinah) or Pejabat Perhubungan Sarawak Kuala Lumpur 019-388 2984 (Dayang).

Meanwhile, Uggah urged the public not to condemn the frontliners as they have been working very hard while making a lot of sacrifices to battle the pandemic.

“They are our heroes actually. You should also notice that Sarawak has three more green zones. Even cases in Kuching also reduced. That is because of our front liners’ totally committed efforts.

“So I hope we don’t only look at small dots but other parameters where we can show we are all committed,” he said.
