SDMC Sets Up Six Evacuation Centres, Shelters 646 Flood Victims

KUCHING: A total of 646 flood victims from 170 families were displaced by floods from Tuesday to 8pm yesterday.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement yesterday that 10 flood evacuation centres have been set up in three divisions to accommodate the victims.
In Kuching, six evacuation centres were set up and the one providing shelter to the most number of victims was Dewan Serbaguna Malihah with 208 residents from 48 families in the area.
The other evacuation centres in Kuching are at Dewan Masyarakat Stapok, Batu Kawa (88 victims, 34 families); SJK Chung Hua Sungai Tengah, Taman Malihah (32 victims, 11 families); Balai Raya Taman Desa Wira (35 victims, 16 families); Dewan SK Matu Baru (80 victims, 16 families) and Shophouse Lot Batu Kawa (72 victims, 15 families).
In Serian, two evacuation centre have been set up, one at Dewan Kampung Betong Kanowit sheltering 23 victims from six families who were evacuated to the centre at 10.30pm on Tuesday, and the other at Kampung Lintang Baru with a total of 88 victims from 22 families.
In Miri, the evacuation centre at Kampung Batu 1 multipurpose hall, Kuala Baram is sheltering seven members of a family while 13 members of a family are taking shelter at the Surau Darul Iman, Tudan Phase centre.
In Bintulu, the affected areas yesterday were Kampung Kuala Tatau, Kampung Baru, Kampung Jepak, Kampung Kemunting, Rh Layang Sungai Mas and Kampung Sinong.
As of press time, no evacuation centre was set up in Bintulu as the level of flood water was receding and under control.
Meanwhile, flood waters were reported to be receding at Kampung Tabuan Dayak; Jalan Rock 2L (behind Timberland Hospital); Taman Hwata, Batu 3; and Lorong Sungai Maong Ulu; Jalan Kampung Bunuk, Kampung Segu Bunuk; Mile 6 1/2 Jalan Penrissen; Kampung Segong, Singai; Kampung Suba Buan, Bau; and Kampung Rimba Padi, Serian.
