Theatre Arts Troupe from Singapore inserts new elements into traditional Chinese dance and will present a newly-choreographed dance piece during the concert.

SIBU: The 4th Sibu International Dance Festival (SIDF) will start tomorrow, with 19 groups from 10 different regions and countries joining the festival.

According to Chen Ing Kuan, the artistic director of Hornland Dance Theatre (HDT) which is the festival organiser, many of the groups are professional dance troupes and some of their dance pieces have received international awards.

Speaking to reporters here yesterday, he said a dance concert presenting signature and latest dance pieces of the groups would also be held tomorrow at 7pm, in conjunction with HDT’s 20th anniversary after which invited guests would then proceed to the Sibu International Dance Festival Welcoming Night at Sibu Civic Centre, starting from 9pm.
Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King has been invited to launch the opening ceremony. Designer Ting Ping Teck is in charge of the venue decoration.

And from Sept 23 to 25, a dance seminar would be held at RH Hotel from 9.30am to 11.30am, while a dance workshop would be held from Sept 24 to 26 at 2pm to 4pm, Chen added.

He also said on Sept 23 at 7.30pm, an outdoor performance by the international dance groups would be held at Sibu Esplanade.

The two-hour SIDF dance concert would be held from Sept 24 to 26 at 7.30pm at Sibu Civic Centre, he added.
“The dance concert will start at 7.30pm and audience will only enter at 6.45pm. Photo and video taking are prohibited,” he reminded.
